Nautical rope knots and green dye have been slipping into our dreams of late as we at Tour De Force we have been making uniforms and accessories bespoke for magic-maker's Bompass & Parr with their latest alchemy with the elements of surprise...

The 'Voyage of Discovery' project involved flooding of Selfridges rooftop, and guiding visitors to reveal the fascinatingly sweet Stevia plant, which by the way- tastes like a sherbet sap!

We got a little carried away chewing on the leaves on the opening night, so I may have overdone my chlorophyll intake- but I imagine its good for detox (hopefully?)

The trippy printed walls and futuristic set were designed by Studio Toogood- and the holographic crystal montage wall was just screaming for garment usage to match wall ( a 'Garden State' poster moment)

Here people got perfect little medicinal containers of this stuff- ideal for discreet public alcoholism (irrelevant, though it was really would drink it at any time of day).

During the event I took the Stevia plant on the underground and bumped into a chef I befriended at a party a million years ago, he said had recently been foraging for herbs and started chewing on the leaves. I'm pretty sure everyone thought I was dealing some new organic hallucinatory substance- the whole scenario was a bit like an urban Jurassic park intro... good times.

Coo Coo, I'm just a sucker for creatures with no heartbeat. Last time I bought a stuffed toy it was a furry donkey, and the eBay seller sent me the history of where it came from and why they loved it- it was all very special and intense.
At the Clerkenwell open studios I met textile artist Abigail Brown's little bird friends, and I am so in love with the flamingo. On the subject of flamingo's the charity-run shop Mama Biashara in Shepperd's Bush's West 12 Mall in London- they sell stunning painted straw flamingo's, its a shame their opening times are a mystery to me, and may a time i have stood outside on a Saturday hoping the shutter will go up (i recommend stalking this shop until it opens)... will take pictures and buy some next time I find it open!

I love this film for Connan & The Moccasins, everyone can relate to a dolphin romance- Who doesnt have a sponscorship certificate in their box of treasures somewhere? Missing the point probably, but since seeing him live at folk fete in Camden, I would probably have liked any lengthy moving image of Connan, as in real life he does have an other worldly presence- much like a ressurected Pinnochio/ Edward Sisscorhands... and that in itself is pretty fascinating aside from his birdie pipes.

Hanna Sager Forsberg is an swedish Central St. Martins graduate who previously worked at PUDEL before launching her own line last year. She has designed an EPIC quantity of shirt styles under her label Sager Forsberg... (on #100 now!)

I love the fact that they are not designed to season, and I wish I had known about them when I got pulled aside in desperation by one of these style paps looking desperately for people wearing silk shirts to reflect the current huge demand-(they were scraping the barrel if they needed a shot of moi).

Anyways I would have told them to google this label down- as Hanna is also super modelesque herself...

I still remember the instance in the 90's stumbling across Keith Tysons Artmachine project on his website BACK IN THE DAY when I still had a 'fluffybunny16' hotmail account... the concept of breifing people to recreate a sculpture using only written specifications and exhibiting the results. I think I sent Keith Tyson an email about it at the time- how embarrassing considering I was a high school kid with a pornstar email address.
The collaboration of Keith Tyson's artwork in print form- with Mother of Pearl is like an opportunity to own something on a level of Dali for Shiaparelli!!!!.... stuff getting tickets for the Olympics, Im going to start a penny jar for AW11 to come along and this collections to hit Liberties, as to own one of this is a 'once in a generation' type thing. It does help that the clothes are beautifully simple, with those kind of scandanavian workwear details that equal comfort under the guise of elegance.

Mother of Pearl is the product of designers Maia Norman and Sue Foulston, and as Maia is Damien Hurst's partner she must know Keith Tyson pretty well, and has worked with him to create beautiful placements. (SIGH OF WONDER)

Berlin-base designer Monique is a recent graduate who has just launched her conceptual line Rusman.
Every time I have met Monique, she has drawn me in to her world of words that make a play on your emotions and the performance of communicating an evolving state seems to be very much apart of her work as she embodies it. Having a background in performance art I am sure her fashion work will always be a vehicle for original presentation in itself.

The last collection shoot has been serious fun times, chocolate flapjacks (courtesy of lovely Laura), way too many bad sandwiches of my own demise and alot of chiffon getting all over the way.
Got to work with the wonderful stylist stylist Katy Lassen again who is so lovely I always end up giving my whole life away to her in endless monologue (probably mind-numbing).

Alot of mess as made and the smell of burnt rubber articles whizzing around in a haze of madness made it all the more fun this season, though I am glad to be finishing with restoration like brushwork on charcoal surfaces etc...
We worked with an architectural model-making company this season to get rubber cut to replicate the fan effect of lines cut in rotated rings.

Fashion week may be over but the wheels are still turning on the TDF truck eye cream and Mr. Whipped-me until I finished this collection...

It was exciting to take the collection to Paris for ON/OFF this season!
I curse not taking more pictures as the talent at the Paris showrooms was incredible- I loved Yunis and Eliza and their sculptural jewellery made with the purest intentions, I can see why they won the Elle talent award.
Brooke Roberts had her super succint knitwear collection at ON/OFF , and explained that she used real brain scans for the hospital she worked in (as a .. Neurosomething_ to created complex knitting patterns! I first met Brooke when I was interning a Giles and she was pattern-cutting for them- so I am excited to see what she produes in the coming seasons as she really does have a multi-dimensional understanding of textile construction... I mean - WOW
Also Lilee at Vauxhall fashioarisn scout had a seriously well-finished collection- like stitching you would want to count like a hail mary it was so perfect.

So I finally figured out that my destiny with the unit space overlooking the river did not relate to where I was supposed to live (as believed for many a year to a series of long-winded romantic ideas) BUT ACTUALLY just a location for this amazing shoot was meant to take place.
We shot the new look book with styling and art direction genius Katy Lassen and photographer Robert Harper a few days ago, and I still cant get over the extreme hotness of model Cat B with her symmetrical feline features. Couldn't help but meow at her on the shoot like a temporary lesbo in lust with her genetics- serious!

I have been extremely lame with the blogging lately as S/S11 is vacuuming my existence into a obsession over the too much/ not enough internal argument about design decisions... have been heading towards a confrontation with myself for a while now but will definitely refrain from a fight club-like conclusion of getting violent upon my other self with fabric shears and 'wake up' next to a great collection... though a great collection needs to get finished so I better eat a few more salty goji berries and keep stitching these 'shoulder caves' and keep talking to the real-life surrounding humans in the studio (they definitely exist).

Menswear:
Generally I don't really understand it in its derivation of practicality, the collections of Six Lee definitely seem to be product of a romantic approach to dreams of detail. He describes himself in a way that you imagine he is humble and uncompromising at the same time- rare!
Originally from Hong Kong, he studied in Antwerp and now studies in Belgium where he will be showing again in September...
His collages/inspiration which perfectly mirror his aesthetic, and has given me a yearning for the truly conceptual... a spinning globe on the fingers of a man with no face.- if you know what I mean... the culmination of ideas for an all powerful vision.

Determined to support the trade of Artwords Books on Broadway Market, I bought the new Industrie magazine (fanzine 'about the culture of fashion, telling the stories of those who influence us').

The concept of a magazine that supports the desire for reason and understanding of a elitist and private industry, is definitely something with potential to influence change. In reading the introduction however, it seemed they may want protect themselves by presenting this challenge as an attempt which will also in process honour the need to maintain the aspirational element to exclusivity. Reading the magazine brings up questions about how indeed exclusivity can now be defined (apart from price alone) and what is indeed the future of aspirational branding strategy.

I am sounding like a serious advertising-spiel parody- ick, but it did make me think about how things could go if the exposure of behind-the-scenes in the fashion industry was approached in a more 'heat magazine' inperfections are the joys of a new- found accessabilty way. I guess this could be pretty destructive- like a shell suit at a bonfire! Is this why some people hate Tyra Banks...?

Having alot of frogs symbolism popping into my life at the moment, a stylist told me about this film (above) and I become totally fascinated by this scene, and ten received two frog related cards the next day- so I looked into the'general meaning of frogs' and apparently its TRANSITION... I think I am definitely going to start making up my own horoscopes!

I definitely think hundreds of frogs were harmed in the making of this film, but maybe animal cruelty was ok for the sake of art in the 70's.

So its been about a gazillion synapses since my mind played on this page, but finally re-united myself with machines that understand humans-AKA computers fit for sane attempts at existing in this world.YEY!
I was completely OVERWHELMED with adoration for this skull top by Flur when I came across a shot of it on the stylist Marie-Claude Lamb's blog (of Plastique Magazine).
A Welsh Westminster graduate from last year... her leather work and the interaction between it and the draping was amazing... I am sure a new collection will emerge on catwalk again soon as I must seriously be living in a barrell to have not been blessed with such a beautiful sculpture in my face until now!

So, I won a ticket to Paris and packed in some srious culture absoption- firstly atthe Musee De Poupee- and archive of dolls- where I discovered my REAL FUR DOG ORNAMENT called Fluffy is actually a 18th century china dolls pet dog! Fluffy was sadly thrown out of the window by an old flatmate who thought it looked demonised... sad but true. Anyway I will be posting some incredible postcards I got there laters...
ad then i went to the pompidou , bypassed all the femenist commentry artwork and came across some General Idea Films... I totally love AA Bronson anyways but WOW this is good.

I'm very lucky to have Bojana Jervic a very talented costume/fashion designer from Serbia assisting me at the moment who has a visual penchant for exhuberant detail. She works super hard and drinks insanely strong black coffee...

Bojana has made elaborate collections for performance (like the garments below inspired by Serbian folk costume), and most recently this collage at piece inspired by the work of serbian fashion illustrator and artist- Milena Pavlovic Barilli, who made surrealist ads from Vogue in NY during 1930-'40s.

Bojana's VALENTINES FACT:
"Apparently Milena's parents were madly in love, but never have lived together. She lived in Serbia and he in Italy, and they were sending letters to each other whole their life, even after Milena died."

Her piece will go on show at the Belgrade Accademy of Arts next week in a group show.

The prolific illustration duo Telegramme (the studio of which busltes beside me) has branched out to new pastures... as Chris Gove (one half) is launching the menswear line Percival this week. Telegramme have got on the branding themselves, and cooked up a seriously exciting fashion film to launch with the new range.
The film has been created by director Alex Turvey of Dazed Digital's FrankenFashion movie... which was AMAZING right?
A magic forest-based flick featuring Daisy Lowe, I have only seen stills so far but will update on the inevitable greatness after the launch-night...
I cant beleive they did the casting when I was in Amsterdam, I mean SERIOUSLY!

So, Vogue Turkey is soon to be launching with its March issue, and with London-based visionary stylist Mary Fellowes at the helm of Editor, I'm very excited to check out the editorially delicious visual feasts- will be popping down to Frank's bookstore for that one...
Sometimes I think designers make objects for scenes yet to be painted, and sometimes they make them for scenes (the elements of which lie in their memories). I am more interested in the latter- for then we get a true suprise.TADA

My now-sadly-departed Australian intern Sophie enlightened me greatly on Australian culture... I was intrigued to discover that people actually really respect macdonalds salad offerings over there...

Also, this amazing label called Romance was Born lives there, seriously on my wavelength of aesthetic light-heartedness plus pazzaz! Any designers that use the word Jamboree in their bio, sound like the kind of people I want to bump into at an impersonal foreign hotel someday in the future ...

Perhaps we could form a bond over our mutual language and loveof glitter, turning curtains into soiree outfits with (sound-of-music style).

For some reason on my computer the collection images speed crazily past- its like being on a fairground train ride of wonder, from the comfort of behind your own glowing screen...

I recently met one of the designers from Atelier 11, and mumbled at him about how much I loved what they do while gawping at the AW10 Collection (below)- lots of laquered/ rubberised pieces that remind me of industrial parts of submarines or something. Atelier 11 is the creative station of Ludovic Calpaert and Flor Janssens who have a studio in Antwerp, and create Jewellery for loads of designer big cheeses like Victor & Rolf and Margiela.. anyway I was always like "why dont you sell in London..."
So after gushing this in my state of adoration, either Ludovic or Flor told me they have just sold to Brown's in London (I'm gessuing Focus..) so I'm going to have to totter down and dream the affordation (a word?).

We presented the Tour De Force accessories range at Amsterdam's Cutting Edge presentation- ate alot of cheese sandwiches and got very excited to find Lucy+Bart (of body-specific installation/ trend inspiration for the deconstructed sillouette- FAME) munipulating faces for a 'plastic surgery' project.
I was considering getting involved in the ouch being a BIG FAN of their work, but the guy in the chair at the time kept saying it was really hurting. well its all for the sake of art/fashion (both worthy causes after all)...

So behind the curtain next to me have been hanging the beautifully printed Metropolis inspired collection of Belle Sauvage... I didnt realise that this label duo was heavily into sci-fi, but now I am a instant fan of their geoetry and clever arragnement of placement print- my favorite piece being the chiffon mini and spikey-hipped dress/top, which feels seriously luxurious (like Giles Deacon standard of high-quality production going on with this) mmmm
Belle Sauvage will be also presenting the full collection at On/Off this season, so it does seem as though London is becoming the place to watch the progression of the digital print trend- ohhhh the possibilities...

Oops, I have been off the blogosphere for a month due to extreme in-house contruction mission, through which process 3 sewing machines have been broken and one laptop has been taken to the brink of death, but the accessories are- tick - done and propped up in Amsterdam.

Andreas Eberharte is the Austrian-based creator of the metal eyepatch pur home in the paparazzi music video, but also various masks- the message on his site is semi-dark, but I like the idea of the face as something that needs an emotional tea-cosy some of the time... and I think generally most Austrains are superior in goodness as human beings- I idealise them as a race (ignoring all the wierd basement stories of course- a niche issue I am sure!), I imadgine they skip around loving Opera and Stollen. SO if I had 1,000 Euros to spend in Paris....

I would hop on the Eurostar, and invite some strangers to play exquisite corpse with us on the way over... skip out and hire a bicycle to quickly check out the charity shop hidden behind Gare De Nord sation which sells amazing vintage astracan for about 5 euros, and stock up on some inspiration samples ( possibly discarding the astracan post-moral dilhema)...
Drop off our hugely exciting piles of fabric-stuff at Hotel Saint Merry- the ideal gothic vamp-magnet with 4 poster beds... and set off to find some exciting looking artist/fashion men SLASH vamps at Palais de Tokyo...
At Palais de Tokyo art gallery we would most definitely stock up on japanese illustration books and then make hugely intelligent conversation with some media types at the red-glowing restaurant area... but realise that it was more interesting to make creatures out of the food and look for MORE ILLUSTRATION BOOKS.. heading to cult illustration shop called Un Regarde Moderne, and wade through all the piles to invest in some special one-off zine's before heading back super-central to get some Violet and Vanilla Macaroons from La Duree.
Wearing some insane feather wave headpieces we would then shuffle down to Crazy Horse burlesque show to try and get an audition for a career move into sexy, but in case of failure get a couple of tickets to the show.
After rolling out of our coffins in the A.M we would then get a couple of croissants and heavily thick hot chocolate for a winter picnic on Isle de la Cité, and then cycle down to Porte De Clignancourt market to find piles of vintage and talk to old french people about watches.
If we have time we (the plus and I) would head down to see the creations of Madame Vionnet at Musée de les Artes Decoratives before grabbing some dinner in the blind at the pitch black restaurant Noir

WAH NAILS is definately the best thing happening on my street- though many old-school expat locals (AKA young-pro/artists in east-london who werent born there) complain that shoreditch is creeping up on them and destroying the scrapheap challenge heaven of Kingsland Road.... its not really a big deal considering shoreditch ha always been 5 mins down the same street anyway... anyway, remember guys,self-imposed poverty is ALWAYS AN OPTION no matter where you are!
Anyway- back on subject... the smell of nail chemicals freaks me out- but I might just go and get some gold foil ones done anyway just so I can check out their 90's magazine collection.

Wow- just read about this dutch architect Jan Jaap Ruijssenaars who invented a floating magnetic bed which could also work as a table worth 750k! MMm thats a bit dark.

While in shock at the fact the intense circular King's library in the centre of the British Museum has been cleared out for 'exhibition space', I stumpled upon a mini-showcase of Else Peretti's work for Tiffany's. I have been much distracted by looking at collage films today like Stan Vanderbeck's Science Friction, and really great styling to me seems always to be like a compositional art through the medium of collage.
I would love to do styling project where the design was led by the compositional needs of a model within a scene, similar to how conditions are put upon Jørgen Leth by Lars Von Trier in the movie The 5 Obstructions.

Having no influence or powers in curation, Im really hoping someone o u t t h e r e is going to feel the need to have a Nagi Noda retrospective, considering her work is extremely relevent right now (the torch being carried on in the UK by Charlie le Mindu on the creatures of hair on the head side of things). Nagi Noda was a japanese designer who passed away last September due to injuries she had in a previous car crash, but had been Art Directing, fashion directing and styling under the same agency as Michelle Gondri. extremely prolific, her animal heads are still being taken out of the archives and worn by the likes of Lady Gaga- the talent lives on.

United Nude shoes- desirable architecture for the feet, and is actually under the creative direction of an architect ( Rem D Koolhaas, nephew of the word famous architect Rem Koolhaas).
The design studio for this label is in the industrial city of Guangzhou in China, and its labels like these that are starting to prove that the Chinese fashion industry is going to become an international force to be reckoned with in years to come.

I'm looking for a new place to habitualize, could find any images online from the 1968 movie "Birds, Orphans and Fools' which depicts the ideal surrealist DIY disaster that I lust over, so here are some images of some great set design- so dark and tasty!

Have been having some disturbing dreams of late- I hope the lengthy nightmarish visual ride is a sign that I am regressing to a more youthfull state of hyper-imadgination... but in truth the concept that clones may be an economic option for organizations wanting slave-like worker possesions has been worrying me- as although a horrific concept- all to available a scientific possibilty ahhhhhhhh

I think this influenced my seriously horrific dream last night;

Two men- one light-hearted in extremely frightning situations, and the other always calmly concerned, discovered murders which appeared very abstract in composition- i never see the gore only glimpses of misplaced composition- part of a leg and the reaction of the men, often in rooms with oversized foam shapes in primary colour- and giant windows with no glass looking out onto sand coloured sky scrapers- no glass anywhere at all. In discussion with eachother they worked out that the murderer- who they were now awaiting, was definately a transvestite midget with a long curly blonde wig (I see her). Although the midget chased them to the window ledge a couple of times, she returned to her 'factory' where she manufactured goods and had some kind of spa treatment service in lead coloured cube cells, from which people 'would never leave'. Feeling as though they should probably try and kill her themselves to save innocent people, they crawl over a lighting in the ceiling- discovering boneless creatures which are being bred for factory labour.

horrific right!- so this was a dream, but factories in china producing' fake eggs' out of cilicone is something that really happens... cloning offers way to many immoral opportunities!

In a belated viewing of the September, I Issue fought through 15 minutes of seething anger at the system until I surrendered to eventual enjoyment of what is an incredibly well-timed great marketing idea , and for the same reason respect Wintour for doing a Warhol and making fashion and her own celebrity the driving force of an enterprise. Grace Coddington is all expression and forms subject of interest in itself but mostly because when the same real-time pauses are applied to Anna, we get the polar opposite, a mirror. Her self-consciousness has no vulnerability seemingly because it is in itself a controlled presentation of her own status.

A returned vacant stare to the camera says to me;

I see you watching me and I am watching you right back, because my purpose is to be acknowledged as a brand. The less I do, the less I say, the firmer the image becomes. I am like photograph, static and unchanging, and you will buy it because it is a reliable product.
What you see is what you get....
but that's all your getting.

Is this a newly popular operation- Industrial self-maintainance perhaps?

Although I have massive respect for great business minds, I am also a bit more inclined to the French way of thinking in that high-fashion is an Art as well as the product of a process in operation for and as a result of industry. I truly believe it can exist both simultaneously and intertwined.
However, The American fashion industry (if epitomised by Wintour) seems slightly adverse to the pedestal for clothing as an object of art- there is no critical allowance for a personal objectivism and interpretation, as there would be for a sculpture for instance. Their industry is very much more the art in itself, so if it doesn't sell, if it doesn't operate to service the industry of fashion and its requirements, it is without value to the fashion media.

I cannot help but wonder whether this kind of industry-conscious authority is simply
resulting in designers pandering to the industry by following advice NOT because they doubt their own , but because they fear the repercussions if they don't follow the heavy 'recommendations' made to them.
I know for sure I would be pretty terrified if I had to present something to Anna Wintour, but mainly because I don't respond to silent authority at all well...
If someone faces you with negative reactions with no wish to enlighten you with the WHY then its truly disappointing. I mean the WHY is the most interesting part, and if all you get is a horrified glance or a mild smile or a yes or a no then to take it on board makes just as much sense as shaking a magic 8 ball every season and hoping for the best...
Obviously that general mentality qualifies for blacklisting, and the opposing argument is a good one- You cant criticize the rules of the game when your not playing it properly anyway.

Making it herself, she created 1,579 metres of floucy white stuff and decorated her dress in 7000 swarovski crystals. Being a mega fan of Anna Paquin's of True Blood's squished duck-like beauty (as a friend recently put it)... so imagine my incredulity when I saw her face of ten years ago looking in a mighty-similar condition!

I was intensely chugging through the Nylon archives in the CSM library - and there she was, aged 18 in Nylon- shot by Terry Richardson in the year 2000... errrr can someone please scrape off a few specs of her face so we can extract and re-create her elixir of life in the form of an anti-aging cream because SHE DONT LOOK 9 YEARS OLDER from where I'm sitting. While my consciousness has been bobbing around on the surface of life like a rubber toy (with a vacant stance and and absence of interior substance, so blogging really wouldn't have been an option unless i was going to regurgitate inspirational quotes by Michael Urie. Enough said.

ANWAY came across this magazine for the first time called Monu- seems to focus on futuristic urban design and architectural theory- quite relatable considering anything that relates to too much historical fact about anything usually sends me someone irrelevant and visual... but this was informed fictional vision- I especially liked the Sky Cemetery building concept for futuristic burial ground slash sky-scraper with online database for the logging of family history upon death.

Also, the illustrated visual theory of Speedisms 'Horse+ Pig' is a really inspiring approach to developing futuristic ideas of the sociological possibilities of an operating community, and the effect the manipulation of physical construct has on a philosophical development, design or otherwise- Going to go and buy the middle-class urbansim issue after all the comments on toilet hygeine I overheard at a squat party the other day... quelle genuine suprise. check it-

I think I am my mind is wondering while my eye is turning lazy in synchronicity today... somehow drifted onto this Las Vegas shop called Fruition which i think its a new and vintage designer boutique. Don't really know anything about Vegas style- but I am quite liking the 'so wrong meets so right' ghetto-bling trashy yet mildy abstract vibe... am i describing an M.I.A groupie?

My On/Off Neighbour and Menswear deigner Georgy has served up some contempo dance to accompany his collection (which was inspired by physical expression and movement)- how delighted was I considering I ban on about wanting to see more of this kind of thing!
I could watch people twisting around abstractly for hours, so I am a big fan of his piece check it out here

The trademark sound of who wants to be a millionaire... yeah LFW is over (apart form all the masculine stuffs of course) and what a damn shame my multiple attempts at winning cameras in obscure competitions didn't pay off in time to document any of it!

I crumbled in awe yesterday when Nicola Formichetti introduced himself to me and I became temporarily disabled an unable to shake his hand probably (flashback to a story someone once told me about Tom Fords philosophy on a handshake- he apparently said "never work with someone who doesn't give eye contact with a firm handshake" while shaking this guys hand aggressively) grrrr, temporary self-hatred was soon washed away by more free Sourz shots in luminous shades... ICK

HOWEVER,
this backfired when the nice people from Luna & Curious came by and I spilt a glass of this purple stuff and it splashed the little baby they had in tow, now that I am completely aware of my v. non-ironic Geekdom I am going to make some 5-minute clothes that I can use to try and dress myself up into a visual play on this unavoidable status.

ARE 5-MINUTE CLOTHES A GOOD IDEA? I have had quite alot of use outta that gingham human pillow case I made the other day- twas Vivienne Westwood who promoted wearing sheets last season with her toga party style post jumping in a giant bath of autumnal silk-dye....
